Noguchi Akari Scarf
Noguchi Akari Scarf Noguchi Akari Scarf
$69.95

Inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures, this design extends the concept of akari (Japanese for “light as illumination” but also “weightlessness”) into the wearable sculpture of a scarf.

The scarf’s luxurious fabric, a blend of modal and silk, echoes the translucent washi paper of Noguchi’s delicate lanterns, while the fine embroidery mimics the bamboo reed “ribs” of the lamps, giving the scarf form and structure.

Just as Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures took on many forms, the Akari Scarf may be worn in any number of ways, remaining nearly weightless, true to Noguchi’s original concept and aesthetics. Designed exclusively for the Noguchi Museum.
