This classic abacus-bead-shaped ikebana basket is from the early Showa period, circa 1930. Its bamboo body is formed of a hexagonal plaiting with the handle secured to the body with a combination of insect, tortoise-shell, double and interlocking “v” and rice character knots. Signed on bottom CHIKOEN; with signed tomobako (box). Excellent condition. 18 inches high. This piece is sourced from Guillermina Emy LaFever, who is known for her unique, quirky art and furnishings with an Asian emphasis. She has traveled the world acquiring and merchandising her incredible collection for 35 years.
