Ban Inoue is inspired by the beauty of “the flower” and “wabi” from the flourishing and fertile period, Azuchi-Momoyama. Majority of the Japanese traditions that are still celebrated today were born during this period such as, ikebana and tea ceremony, housing culture such as tatami and food products like soy sauce and natto.

Ban Inoue creates everyday household items that harmonize with modern life and enhance the beauty of daily life. They want to instill and continue the traditional beauty and spirituality of Japan in every item. Their eye-catching color palette and name’s of each item evoke the rich nature found in Japan’s four seasons as well as the vibrant use of colors found on kimonos. 

This series is dyed in various colors and made of mosquito net fabric, which has excellent air permeability, good water absorbency and drying properties. Mosquito net fabric, a local industry in Nara, has been actively woven since the Edo period (1603-1868) and continues to be used today. Mosquito nets were introduced from China and were initially used by aristocrats and others, but became popular among the general public during the Edo period. [Merchants selling mosquito nets with their distinctive call of "Kayaa, kayaa" became a poetic tradition that signaled early summer in Edo (present-day Tokyo).
