Emerald Vase with Cranes

Japanese Kutani ware is known for landscapes, flora, and fauna in bold, expressive colors, seen on this tall vase in abstract gold-flecked skies, cranes, and misty turquoise mountains.  Porcelain kilns in the village of Kutani (“Nine Valleys” in Japanese) date back to 1655CE, and the style was named an official traditional craft in 1975, with several artists designated as living national treasures.
