L Nanao Japanese Candle
L Nanao Japanese Candle
Japan's Takazawa Candle has been making plant-based candles from sumac, rice bran, and rapeseed flower oil since 1892. They are the only remaining candle maker in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, following this traditional method of candle-making, using sumac wax from the Kyushu region and Japanese washi paper from Shimane Prefecture for wicks. Each candle is made by hand, one at a time, to ensure the highest quality. The flames of Takazawa's candles, symbolic of ancestral wisdom, are bigger and brighter than those of other makers due to the special wick made from a unique recipe dating back to the 16th century.
Each candle motif is inspired by a different native plant found in Nanao and named after a letter of the word 'P-L-A-N-T'. The organic shapes are designed to bring you closer to nature.
