Narrow Watercolor Scarf
Narrow Watercolor Scarf
LUA is the Vietnamese word for silk. Our Mulberry silk scarves are handcrafted by dedicated farming villagers in rural Vietnam using centuries old silk production techniques.During the rice growing and harvesting seasons, the villagers work in the fields tending their crops. In the off season, they sustain themselves by producing rich silk fabrics. Working communally, each family within the village assumes a particular task in the silk production process. Several families harvest and raise the silkworms on the diet of Mulberry leaves, while others weave the silk fibers into fabric. The fabric is hand dyed, by yet another family, using traditional and intricate Shibori techniques to create unique and one of a kind patterns. Twisting and braiding the fabric finishes the process resulting in the crinkle texture that has become the distinctive signature characteristic defining LUA Silk Watercolors scarves. At LUA, we are privileged to be working in partnership with silk farming and weaving communities in the creation of these wonderful pieces. Through fair trade practices, we help to sustain the livelihood for the communities while preserving a centuries old craft.
